Frequently asked questions
Everything teams usually ask before rolling out DeskTrust. Still have a question? Talk to us.
What is DeskTrust?
DeskTrust is AI-powered work intelligence software for remote and hybrid teams. It captures screenshots, tracks active time, and generates a plain-English daily report of what every employee actually worked on — without you having to read raw activity logs.
How much does DeskTrust cost?
DeskTrust starts at $4.99 per user per month on the Starter plan (billed annually). The Growth plan adds team-admin scoping, longer screenshot history, and priority AI models. Enterprise pricing is available for teams over 100 seats or with data-residency requirements. Every plan includes a 30-day free trial with no credit card required.
How does the free trial work?
You can sign up at desktrust.com/signup and use the full product for 30 days without entering payment details. At the end of the trial you can pick a plan or your account moves to read-only until you upgrade — nothing is charged automatically.
Which operating systems does the desktop agent support?
The DeskTrust agent runs natively on Windows 10 and 11, macOS 12 (Monterey) and newer including Apple Silicon, and Ubuntu / Debian-based Linux distributions. All three ship from the same code base and receive the same feature releases.
Is DeskTrust monitoring visible to employees?
Yes. Every screenshot capture is signaled by a tray icon, and each employee has a dashboard showing exactly what has been captured about them. Employees can pause monitoring at any time for personal breaks. Transparent monitoring is a deliberate product principle — we do not offer a hidden or stealth mode.
How are screenshots stored and who can see them?
Screenshots are encrypted in transit (TLS 1.3) and encrypted at rest in cloud storage. By default only company admins and the employee themselves can view them. On the Growth plan you can scope screenshot access to specific team admins per group. Screenshots older than the plan retention window are automatically purged.
Does DeskTrust comply with GDPR and US privacy laws?
Yes. DeskTrust is designed around consent-based monitoring, employee visibility, and per-user pause controls, which align with GDPR, the California Consumer Privacy Act, and most US state employee-monitoring statutes. Enterprise customers can request a data-processing agreement and SOC-2 report from support@desktrust.com.
Where is DeskTrust data hosted?
Standard accounts are hosted on AWS in the United States. Enterprise customers with data-residency requirements — for example government or GCC-region deployments — can request a dedicated regional deployment when contracting.
Can DeskTrust work offline?
Yes. If a laptop loses its network connection, the agent continues capturing screenshots and activity locally and uploads them when connectivity returns. The dashboard reflects offline status without losing work data.
How is DeskTrust different from Hubstaff, Time Doctor, or ActivTrak?
DeskTrust ships with an AI narrative report by default — you get one paragraph per employee per day describing what they actually worked on, instead of raw app-usage logs you have to interpret yourself. It is also transparent by design (no stealth mode) and priced lower per seat than most enterprise tools. See our comparison guides under /compare.
How do I install the DeskTrust agent across my team?
For small teams, each employee downloads the installer from desktrust.com/download and signs in with their invite code. For larger deployments the agent supports MSI (Windows) and pkg (macOS) silent installs with a provisioning token, so IT can push it through MDM, Intune, or Jamf.
How do I cancel or export my data?
You can cancel any time from Settings → Billing; there are no annual lock-ins on monthly plans. Before canceling you can export all screenshots, activity data, and AI reports as CSV/JSON from the admin dashboard. On request we will permanently delete all account data within 30 days.
