Features
Everything in Connect, at a glance.
The full feature catalog. If you\'re evaluating Connect against a stack of Slack + Zoom + TeamViewer, this is the page you want to send to your CTO.
Team Chat
The essentials done well.
1:1 direct messages
Chat with any teammate or admin in your organization. Message history is retained until you close the account.
Ad-hoc group chats
Pick 2+ colleagues and start a named room in seconds. Add or remove members later.
Auto-provisioned team rooms
Every DeskTrust Group gets its own auto-membership team room, so the chat mirrors your org chart.
Attachments (25 MB cap)
Images preview inline. PDFs, docs, spreadsheets, and zips get a labeled download link. Files scoped to the room they were uploaded to.
Full-text search
Search a room's history from the header. 90-day window on Starter, 1 year on Growth and Enterprise.
Reactions
Six quick reactions plus a full picker. Toggle your own reaction off with a click.
Edit and delete
Edit any message you sent within the room. Org admins can delete on behalf of moderation.
Read receipts + typing
See when a teammate is typing. Message shows as read once they open the room.
@mentions
Type @firstname to mention anyone in the room. Their tab title flashes with the mention preview.
Presence
Green dot when a teammate has any DeskTrust tab open. 30-second freshness window.
Voice & Video Calls
Click Call, be talking in 3 seconds.
1:1 audio + video
Standard WebRTC calls up to 720p. Works in any modern browser without an app.
Group calls up to 25
Plan-gated: 4 on Starter, 10 on Growth, 25 on Enterprise. SFU-based so quality scales.
Active-speaker detection
Whoever is talking gets an emerald ring on their tile — makes 5+ person calls readable.
Adaptive grid
1, 2, 2x2, 2x3, or 3x3 tile layouts. Camera-off participants become initial-avatar tiles.
Ring-based invites
Recipients see a full-screen ring modal on every open tab. 30-second timeout with auto-decline.
Device controls
Mute mic, hide camera, hang up. Toggle at any time; other side sees the change instantly.
Call history
Every session is persisted as a CallSession row with initiator, participants, timing, and (if enabled) recording path.
Late join
Anyone invited can join an already-active call — they consume producers on join without re-negotiating.
Screen Sharing
Not just for meetings.
In-call screen share
One-click share during any voice or video call. All participants see the screen fullscreen while cameras shift to a side rail.
Second-presenter takeover
When someone else is sharing, clicking Share prompts a confirm-then-preempt. The previous sharer's local state clears automatically.
Team broadcasts
Share a screen to a whole team room with NO ring. Colleagues drop in and out via a "🖥 Alice is sharing" banner at the top of the room.
Watcher count
Presenter sees a live count of how many people are currently watching.
Automatic session cleanup
Presenter closes their tab? Session ends for viewers within 8 seconds. No stuck streams.
Window vs. full-screen
Pick which screen or specific window to share via the browser's native picker. Full-desktop, single-window, or Chrome-tab.
Manager-Initiated Screen View
TeamViewer-style access, without the surveillance guilt.
Every session requires fresh consent
No "remember this decision" toggle. No auto-approve. Every single request shows an approval modal the employee must click through.
Jurisdiction-aware disclosures
Consent text adapts to the employee's location (US 2-party, GDPR, GCC, ANZ default). Legal review required before shipping to production.
Employee picks the screen
After approving, the employee sees the browser's native picker and chooses which screen or window to share. Nothing is shared without their pick.
Persistent viewed-by indicator
A small floating red pill in the top-right shows manager name, elapsed time, and a big STOP button. Always visible while the session is live.
Reason field
Managers state why they need the view. The reason shows on the employee's approval modal, so consent is context-aware.
30-second request expiry
If the employee doesn't respond within 30 seconds, the request auto-expires and is logged as such.
Manager scope enforcement
Manager-scoped admins can only request views from employees in their managed groups. Enforced server-side.
Employee opt-out
Individual employees can pre-emptively block all screen-view requests via a Settings toggle. Attempts to view are logged as denied.
Immutable audit trail
Every request — approved, denied, expired, cancelled, revoked mid-session — writes an unchangeable row with actor, target, jurisdiction, IP, and timing.
Session Recording
Compliance-grade evidence, not covert.
Consent banner every time
When a recording starts, a red banner announces it to everyone in the call. REC pill shows in the header for the whole session.
WebM output
VP8 + Opus, streamed straight from mediasoup — no transcoding, low server CPU. Plays natively in every modern browser.
Auto-record for manager view
Sessions can auto-record when the org has the Recording feature enabled. Every manager-view minute is captured.
Manual toggle for calls
For regular calls, any participant can start or stop recording via a red circle button in the controls.
Range-supported playback
Recordings stream with HTTP Range headers so browsers can seek without downloading the whole file.
Access control
Recordings readable by participants, org admins, super-admins, and manager-scoped admins whose managed group includes at least one participant.
Configurable retention
Nightly cron purges recordings older than the org's retention setting (default 30 days). Older files are deleted from disk and the DB pointer is cleared.
Admin & Compliance
Everything you need to answer "did that really happen?"
Per-org feature toggles
Turn Chat, Calls, Screen View, and Recording on or off independently from Settings — no engineer required.
Screen-view audit page
Chronological log of every screen-view attempt in your org. Filter by event type; drill into each row for full details.
Recording history
Every session that was recorded shows up in /dashboard/recordings with metadata, participants, and a Play button.
Add-on billing
Enable or disable Connect from your billing page in one click. 14-day free trial. Cancel any time — chat history persists.
Rollback per org
Turn Connect off for a specific org via Settings toggle or a single super-admin API call. In-flight sessions end; chat history is retained.
Env-master kill switches
Global CONNECT_ENABLED (and per-sub-feature) env vars for platform-wide disable — used only in emergencies.
Turn on chat, calls, and screen sharing — no new bill, no new login.
Cancel your Slack + Zoom + TeamViewer trio. Consolidate on the tool your team already uses.
