Screen sharing

Two ways to share your screen with colleagues: during a call, or as a standalone team broadcast.

Way 1 — In-call screen share

Best for real-time collaboration when you\'re already on a call.

You\'re on a 1:1 or group call.
Click the 🖥 Share screen button in the call controls.
Your browser prompts you to pick a screen, a specific window, or a browser tab.
The screen fills the main call area for all participants. Cameras shrink to a right-side rail.
Click 🖥 Stop sharing to end the share. The call continues.

Take-over: two presenters at once

Only one person can share at a time. If someone else is sharing and you click Share, you\'ll see a"Bob is currently sharing their screen. Take over?" confirm dialog. Confirming preempts them — Bob\'s share state clears automatically and yours becomes the active one.

Way 2 — Standalone team broadcast

Best for stand-ups, walkthroughs, and "come look at this" moments where you don\'t want to ring anyone or force people to join a call.

Open a team chat room or ad-hoc group room (needs ≥ 2 members).
Click the 🖥 icon in the room header (the purple one, next to Call).
Browser prompts to pick a screen or window. Pick.
Every other member of the room sees a purple "🖥 Alice is sharing" banner at the top of the room. They can click Join whenever they want.
You see a live count of how many people are currently watching.
Click Stop broadcasting to end. All watchers get returned to the chat.

Watchers can join and leave freely. There\'s no ringing, no interruption, and no forced participation.

What can you share?

Your browser\'s native picker offers three options:

Entire screen — everything visible on that monitor. On multi-monitor setups, pick which monitor.
Application window — just one app\'s window, everything else stays private.
Chrome tab — a single browser tab (Chrome/Edge only).

Privacy note: Once you pick something to share, everything visible in that pick is shared until you stop. If you switch apps while sharing "entire screen", the new app is visible too. Use "application window" when you want strict scope.

Stopping a share

Three ways, all equivalent:

Click Stop sharing in the browser\'s native bar (usually at the bottom of your screen).
Click 🖥 again in the DeskTrust call controls (in-call) or Stop broadcasting (standalone).
Close the tab. In-call: cleanly stops the share. Standalone: takes 8 seconds for viewers\' UI to close.

iOS Safari limitation

Apple has restricted getDisplayMedia on iOS Safari — you can\'t present a screen from iPhone or iPad. You can still watch someone else\'s share. If iOS presenting is critical for your team, use an Android or desktop browser.
